I used to pride myself on my ability to read volumes of information, comprehend and analyze that information, and write a paper of greater than 10 pages that was actually worth reading.

 

Now, I can still read, digest, and critically analyze huge amounts of information, but my writing skills now just fail. It is indeed impossible to write anything coherent while making porridge, looking at the latest crayon fantasy, or figuring out how the light cords got tied so tightly around the dog.

 

You may have the most brilliant thought on how to tie disparate sources together in a simple and stunning paragraph.It will disappear slowly and painfully, most coherent piece first,  the second you start to write it out. All because the act of sitting down to write it out ensures that my daughter comes out from wherever she WAS playing and causes her to HAVE TO play right on my feet and start her rounds of endless questions.

 

Children are the antidote to succesful writing.
