Projects that have waited forever

or how I finally have tool, space, time to run tutorials

Posted: April 24th, 2009 @ 6:15pm

I have been accused both justly and unjustly of not handling the introduction of new applications in group projects. Justly because I too am learning how technology deployment is "best" done in various types of endeavors and unjustly because people are willing to suggest shit so long as I am the one who does all the work...
In any case, I now have fallen in love with Jing and have a set of tutorials to capture for FMYI, Dada, Kompozer, and Gimp. I am sure others have done more and better on these, but I am going to try my hand at them anyway as it seems that emailing a link to a tutorial that is already out there or suggesting that people self motivate and google what they want to observe is just not cutting it...and let's NOT start in on why just now.
My goal is to run three tutorial sessions per week until I have them delivered. The workload is
1. FMYI intro, teams, workspaces, archives, reporting
2. HTML basics with Kompozer, intermediate and advanced
3. Image editing basics with GIMP, intermediate and advanced
4. FlexCMS intro, pages, blocks, forum, system
5. Dada Mail intro, editing and testing, sending
That makes at least 15 tutorials...and at the end of it I hope to no longer be the tech default for many systems. Not becasue I don't enjoy the megalomaniacal sense of power and self-aggrandizing position of power, but because if I die those projects that depend on me will be in deep shite. And that would be silly wouldn't it? I mean, I can't have my vast and growing horde of minions thinking I am not responsible enough to find a tech tyrant worthy enough to replace me.
postscript sept09: i was just reading that the usual cause of project failure is something political...
