Reverse Engineering your way to knowing something

Posted: March 30th, 2009 @ 4:30pm

The only times that I resent the insane 4 year old energy that beams into my brain at 6:30am is when what I had been wanting was to burn the night away on some coding project or other detail oriented shenanigan. Since grumpiness is no way to greet a small star whose only consideration is tickling your arm or jumping into your stomach with both knees, bed times are earlier than this night owl wishes...and late night burns are a thing of the past. To unpick some wonderful widget that someone else built is one of my favorite learning methods. It's that old thing where I know I can't build a car but I can fix one. Given enough time, however, I am sure I could create something approximating the car itself. I am at the point in one of my projects where I no longer feel entirely stumped when looking at the widget internals. I feel excited to start pulling the springs and sprongs out and never you mind that I often cannot put them back together right...yet!
